On June 25, the Nomad Futurist Foundation participated in Reuters Events: Global Energy Transition 2025 in New York City — an international forum that convened more than 750 leaders from across the global energy ecosystem. Designed to address the evolving challenges and opportunities of powering the Intelligent Age, the event served as a critical space for collaboration among policymakers, energy providers, technology innovators, and infrastructure leaders.
Representing the Nomad Futurist Foundation, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer Phillip Koblence introduced a solo panel to discuss the future of digital infrastructure and workforce development. In front of a cross-sector audience of decision-makers and industry experts, Koblence shared the Foundation’s mission and ongoing work to empower the next generation of digital infrastructure professionals.
As part of the discussion, Koblence spotlighted the Foundation’s strategic alliance with Infrastructure Masons (iMasons), a collaborative effort aimed at addressing the digital infrastructure talent gap through scalable, global education initiatives. The partnership brings together iMasons’ reach and technical expertise with Nomad Futurist’s grassroots outreach and storytelling approach to develop a more diverse and sustainable pipeline of future industry leaders.
Showcasing the Capstone Experience
During the discussion, Koblence highlighted one of the alliance’s most impactful initiatives — the Nomad Futurist x iMasons Capstone Project. This real-world educational program places students in teams guided by experienced mentors and challenges them to design both a data center and the supporting infrastructure required for a mobile application.
In the first semester, students determine total data use of a mobile app, evaluate costs for land, water, power, and labor, assess connectivity, transportation, environmental risks, and latency, and map and justify their infrastructure network.
The second semester students unlock a network site, design a complete data center for that site, choose IT, HVAC, and power equipment, and compile full capital and operational expense budgets.
Each team presents its final work to a simulated “Board of Directors.” Participating students receive a $2,500 scholarship, connections to industry professionals, and access to certifications through the DCD Academy, creating a direct pathway into the digital infrastructure workforce.
Advancing Education Through Industry Collaboration
Koblence’s presence at the event reinforced Nomad Futurist’s commitment to bridging the gap between education and industry needs. He emphasized the importance of equipping young people — especially those from underrepresented communities — with the tools, mentorship, and real-world experiences necessary to pursue careers in this dynamic field.
The Foundation’s presence at Global Energy Transition 2025 underscored the increasingly central role digital infrastructure plays in conversations about energy, sustainability, and global development. As the digital world continues to expand, ensuring that the next generation is prepared to build and maintain it is not just an educational challenge — it’s an industry imperative.
