The Nomad Futurist Foundation recently had the incredible opportunity to bring a group of passionate educators on an exclusive tour of Flexential’s Portland, Oregon Data Center 3. Attendees included local CTE teachers, science teachers, K-12 program educators, and professional development leaders, all eager to gain hands-on insights into the technology driving today’s digital world.

During the tour, educators explored the inner workings of the data center, from server racks to advanced infrastructure, gaining a unique perspective they can now bring directly into their classrooms. The event included an engaging presentation by Foundation Advocate and Partner and Media Relations Manager at iMiller Public Relations (iMPR) Jake Curtachio, who shared insights on the rapidly evolving industry and demonstrated how teachers can translate these experiences into classroom learning opportunities.

Attendees were also invited to join the Nomad Futurist Academy, a platform designed to provide free educational access to industry knowledge, connect with experts, and collaborate with fellow educators and Foundation members. This exclusive access ensures that teachers can bring cutting-edge content back to their students while remaining connected to an active, supportive network of industry leaders.

We are deeply grateful to our partners at Flexential for welcoming our educators and providing such an insightful behind-the-scenes look. Special thanks to Nick Balik for leading an exceptional tour, and to Heather MacBride for her support in planning the event. We are also thankful to Naomi Brown and Portland Community College (PCC) for trusting us to bring this mission directly into the classroom through their STEM Educator Externship.

If you’re an educator or student, there are countless ways to get involved. From exclusive data center tours to joining the Nomad Futurist Academy or connecting directly with industry experts, the Foundation is dedicated to empowering the next generation to explore and engage with technology in meaningful, hands-on ways.

As Jake shared, “It’s truly inspiring to see educators engaging directly with the technology infrastructure that shapes our world. By bridging education with the digital infrastructure industry, we can enable teachers to spark curiosity and empower students with real-world knowledge that will prepare them for the future.”

For companies or organizations interested in hosting a similar experience, we’d love to hear from you. We regularly partner with groups eager to discover, learn, and shape the future of technology.
