Data Center World 2026 set the stage for the future of digital infrastructure — and the talent driving it. From April 20-23 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., the Nomad Futurist Foundation brought its mission into focus: expanding access, building pathways, and preparing the next generation to lead in a rapidly evolving industry.
Career Day: Where Industry Meets Opportunity
The highlight of our presence was the Data Center World Career Day on April 23, hosted by the Nomad Futurist Foundation in partnership with Infrastructure Masons Armed Forces and AFCOM. Welcoming more than 100 students, along with educators and early-career professionals, the event brought our mission to life in a meaningful and measurable way.
Career Day created direct access, connecting students not only to information, but to the people, pathways, and opportunities that define one of the fastest-growing sectors in the world. Through real conversations and firsthand exposure, attendees gained a clearer understanding of where they can go — and how to get there — within digital infrastructure.
Attendees experienced:
- Direct engagement with leading employers and hiring managers
- Insight into in-demand roles across the data center ecosystem
- Exposure to training programs, certifications, and entry points into the industry
- Access to a Job Matching Portal tailored to their interests and goals
- Hands-on exploration of the Data Center World Expo Hall
- Professional development opportunities, including headshots and networking sessions
With participation from companies like Google, Amazon, Switch, and Stack Infrastructure, students were immersed in the scale, impact, and accessibility of careers in digital infrastructure.
Voices Leading the Way
A defining component of Career Day was hearing directly from leaders who are actively shaping the industry. The Nomad Futurist Leadership Team, including Co-Founder Phillip Koblence, Managing Director Phill Lawson-Shanks, and Executive Director Kelly Santalucia, took the stage to share insights, personal career journeys, and a clear message: there is no single path into this industry — and there is space for everyone.
Their perspectives helped demystify digital infrastructure, breaking down misconceptions and highlighting the diversity of roles available across technology, operations, construction, and beyond. More importantly, they emphasized the human side of the industry: community, mentorship, and the importance of lifting others as we grow.
For many students in the room, this wasn’t just informative — it was transformative.
A Collective Effort
Beyond Career Day, the Foundation’s presence was felt throughout the week. Supporting this effort on the ground were Advisor Bill Kleyman, Ambassadors Dan Ephraim, Lauren King, Joel Chakkalakal, and Terri Schiavello, along with Advocates Adam Noll and Greg Nares. Each played a vital role in engaging attendees, sharing knowledge, and extending the Foundation’s reach across the event.
Together, the Nomad Futurist community demonstrated what makes this mission so impactful: a network of leaders committed to opening doors and building pathways for others.
Why This Matters
The digital infrastructure industry is growing at an unprecedented pace; but growth without access and awareness creates gaps. Career Day directly addressed this challenge by meeting students where they are and connecting them to where they can go.
This is the heart of the Nomad Futurist Foundation’s mission: to equip the next generation with the knowledge, confidence, and community needed to thrive in an evolving digital world.

Looking Ahead
For students inspired by Career Day, the journey doesn’t end there. Through the Nomad Futurist Academy, learners can continue exploring the industry, building foundational knowledge, and connecting with a global network dedicated to their success.
Data Center World 2026 reinforced what we’ve always believed: when industry comes together with intention, we don’t just advance technology, we create opportunity.
And for the Nomad Futurist Foundation, that opportunity starts with the next generation.
