The Nomad Futurist Foundation is proud to have hosted its inaugural Student Track, “The Digital Infrastructure Student Experience,” at the 2025 OCP Global Summit, co-hosted by the Open Compute Project (OCP) Foundation. This landmark event marked a major step forward in our mission to educate, inspire, and empower the next generation of digital infrastructure professionals.
This special program brought together 75 students and educators from across North America for a full day of learning, exploration, and networking with industry leaders. The success of this initiative would not have been possible without the exceptional partnership of Nomad Futurist Ambassador and OCP Director of Technical Programs, Rob Coyle, whose vision and leadership helped bring this experience to life.
Opening Minds Through Immersive Learning
The day began with an exclusive guided tour of the OCP Global Summit Expo Hall, led by Coyle, who reflected:
“It brings me great pride… I’d like to think the high school version of myself would be proud of us for providing this kind of access to students. It wasn’t just the joy I saw in their faces — it was also the enthusiasm of the engineers and exhibitors who were so eager to share their passions with them.”
During the tour, students engaged directly with cutting-edge technologies and met professionals shaping the future of our industry. Special thanks go to the teams at Accelsius, Shell Immersion, and Meta for welcoming the students into their booths and offering them an immersive introduction to next-generation data center innovation.
Learning From Industry Leaders
Following the tour, students attended a series of Nomad-led sessions featuring thought leaders from across the digital infrastructure ecosystem. Presentations from Ambassadors included Allison Boen on Immersion Cooling Technologies, Mitchel Flory on Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility, Vic Rose on Capacity Planning in the Age of AI, and Scott Charter on the Ongoing Adoption of Agentic Workflows in Enterprise.
The sessions culminated in a powerful Nomad Leadership Panel, uniting the experts mentioned above alongside Co-Founders Nabeel Mahmood and Phillip Koblence, Managing Director Phill Lawson-Shanks, and Advisors Jodie Lin and Anahita Mouro. Together, they shared personal stories, insights, and lessons from their own professional journeys, illustrating the diverse, dynamic, and purpose-driven career paths that define the digital infrastructure industry.
The impact was undeniable. Many students expressed how the event opened their eyes to career opportunities they had never considered, and how they left the Summit with a renewed sense of purpose and belonging within this global community.
Expanding Access and Building the Future
Of the 75 total participants, 12 students were fully sponsored by the Nomad Futurist Foundation, traveling from across the United States and Canada. Through the generous support of our sponsors and partners, these students were able to attend the OCP Global Summit at no cost, including flights, lodging, and full event access.
This initiative exemplifies the Foundation’s mission: to create equitable access to education and opportunity in digital infrastructure, ensuring that promising young minds, regardless of background, can participate in shaping the future of this essential industry.
The “Digital Infrastructure Student Experience” was not just a one-day event — it was the beginning of an ongoing relationship between students and the Nomad Futurist community. Through our Student Advocate Program, participants can continue to engage with the Foundation, gaining access to mentorship, career development, industry events, data center tours, and internship opportunities.
Our goal is simple but profound: to help students not only discover the digital infrastructure industry but to see themselves as its future leaders.
Looking Ahead
We extend our deepest gratitude to the OCP Foundation, Rob Coyle, our sponsors and partners, and every Nomad Futurist leader, student, and educator who contributed to the success of this milestone event.
Together, we have set a powerful precedent; one that demonstrates the importance of education, access, and collaboration in building the next generation of innovators.
This is only the beginning. The Nomad Futurist Foundation looks forward to expanding this initiative globally, continuing to inspire, empower, and connect students with the limitless opportunities within digital infrastructure.
