How does AI scale responsibly? Often, the answer lies in the infrastructure we don’t see.

Recently, Nomad Futurist Foundation Ambassador Dan Ephraim joined the University of Virginia Darden School of Business for “Data Centers & the Value Chain of Ethical AI”, hosted in collaboration with the LaCross AI Institute, to shine a light on the digital backbone powering innovation.

The program brought together 100 students, alumni, and faculty for an insightful discussion at the intersection of data center strategy, ethics, energy, capital markets, and technology. Dan kicked off the session by introducing keynote speaker Ed Socia, setting the stage for a vibrant conversation on how infrastructure leaders are meeting the surging demand for AI without compromising sustainability or responsibility.

This event exemplifies what the Nomad Futurist Foundation does best: bridging the gap between industry and academia: “If we want AI to scale responsibly, we must educate all, not just on algorithms, but on the infrastructure that powers them,” said Nabeel Mahmood, Co-Founder of Nomad Futurist Foundation. “Data centers are the foundation of the AI economy. When academia understands that foundation, we unlock more ethical, resilient innovation.” By sharing real-world expertise, Dan helped students grasp the often-invisible, yet critical systems powering tomorrow’s technologies.

“Students were eager to understand the real mechanics behind AI,” said Dan Ephraim. “Once you see the power, cooling, and capital stack behind AI, ethics becomes operational, not theoretical.”

This session is part of Nomad Futurist Foundation’s broader initiative to integrate data infrastructure education into leading universities across the Americas and beyond. As AI reshapes industries, the Foundation is working to ensure future business leaders understand the physical and operational systems that make AI possible.

With AI workloads accelerating and global data center demand projected to grow at sustained double-digit rates, understanding infrastructure is no longer optional for business leaders. Ethical AI requires energy transparency, resilient design, and responsible capital allocation. Bringing these discussions into business schools ensures tomorrow’s executives are prepared for the realities of AI at scale.

And the learning doesn’t stop at one event. The Nomad Futurist Academy provides hundreds of hours of structured, industry-designed curriculum covering power systems, cooling technologies, sustainability, capital markets, and AI infrastructure strategy. The program is free to students and emerging professionals worldwide and supported by global industry leaders committed to workforce development. After completing their first module, participants are invited to join a vibrant community where students, emerging professionals, and industry veterans engage in open discussions and mentorship.

Whether you’re a student eager to explore digital infrastructure or an industry professional ready to mentor the next generation, there’s a place for you here. Together, we can ensure the leaders of tomorrow are equipped with the knowledge, insight, and connections to innovate responsibly.
